"Imagine No Malaria" Pancake Breakfast and Flea Market FundraiserAA

On Saturday, April 26, Bethany United Methodist Church will hold a pancake breakfast and flea market to raise money to support the United Methodist Church’s “Imagine No Malaria” campaign. Malaria, transmitted through the bite of a mosquito, claims a life every 60 seconds. It is preventable, treatable and beatable.

Breakfast will be served from 8-10:30 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, sausage, fruit cocktail, hot apples, orange and/or apple juice, coffee, and milk. Donation requested is $7 for adults; $4 for children under 12; with a maximum of $20 per family of 4 or more.

10th Annual Chalk-It-Up ContestAA

The Howard County Tourism & Promotion staff will host the 10th annual Chalk-It-Up Contest street painting competition where entrants can win cash prizes. Saturday, June 14, 10 am – 7 pm and Sunday, June 15, 10 am – 5 pm

This competition takes place during the Columbia Festival of the Arts FREE Weekend on the Lakefront, a weekend-long event on the lakefront in Columbia Town Center that includes live music, an invitational arts and crafts show, strolling performers, festival food fare-- including Maryland Wineries and a Brew Zone--and an array of activities and entertainment for all ages.

70th D-Day Anniversary WWII Panel Discussion: Bridges to FreedomAA

Howard Community College has invited six World War II veterans (three from Howard County) to participate in a panel discussion and Q&A session on Friday, July 18. The event is designed to provide attendees with the opportunity to hear intimate WWII and D-Day insights from veterans who either landed at Utah Beach, served on the USS Intrepid, or served in another capacity as the United States was immersed in war. Their experiences range from Army, Navy and the Marines to Europe and the Pacific.
